Letters to Max wins big at the first Porto/Post/Doc

film profile], by US-born French filmmaker Eric Baudelaire, has won the top prize at the first edition of Porto/Post/Doc, which drew to a close on Saturday night.
Having already been honoured with the Special Jury Prize at the latest DocLisboa, the movie centres on the correspondence exchanged between the director and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs for Abkhazia, Maxim Gvinjia.
The jury also decided to hand out two Special Mentions: one to Storm Children – Book One, by Filipino director Lav Diaz, and the other to João Bénard da Costa – Others Will Love the Things I Loved [+see also:

film profile], the moving tribute by filmmaker Manuel Mozos to the legendary director of the Portuguese Film Museum (read the review).
The Biberstein Gusmão Award, which is given to a fresh filmmaking talent, went to Swiss director Nicole Vögele for her film Nebel (Fog). Our Terrible Country, by Syrian duo Muhammad Ali Atassi and Ziad Homsi, received a Special Mention.
The first edition of Porto/Post/Doc, which featured a number of highlights, including the celebration of Manoel de Oliveira’s 106th birthday (read more), drew in over 6,000 viewers, according to provisional figures announced by the organisation. The second edition will be held from 1-8 December 2015, when it is hoped that there will be screenings for a raft of titles co-produced by the event itself.
