21/07/2014 - The films by Ronit & Shlomi Elkabetz and Tali Shalom Ezer share the Haggiag Award

The Jerusalem Film Festival (10-20 July) has come to a close awarding the main prize, the Haggiag Award for Best Israeli Feature, to two films: Princess and Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem [+see also:

film profile] co-produced alongside France and Germany. Tali Shalom Ezer’s second feature and Ronit & Shlomi Elkabetz’s Cannes-premiered film have took home ex-aequo the prize awarded by a jury comprised by German actress Martina Gedeck, Cannes’ Cinéfondation director Georges Goldenstern, Professor Eva Ilouz, and Israeli producer Assaf Amir. The festival’s starting date had been postponed one week due to hostilities between Israel and Palestine (read the news). 

Both films have also shared the Haggiag Award for Acting – Shira Haas was named Best Actress for her role in Princess and Menashe Noy was named Best Actor for his turn in Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem. Ronit & Shlomi Elkabetz’s film rounded out its success taking home the Audience Favourite Award. In the meantime, the Anat Pirchi Award for Best First Film was for Bezzi Getta’s Red Leaves, while the Best Script was for Self Made [+see also:

Lastly, Vanessa Lapa’s documentary The Decent One received the Van Leer Award for Best Israeli Full-Length Documentary Film, while Nadav Lapid’s Cannes-premiered The Kindergarten Teacher [+see also:
