, which will be ready for the cinemas on 12 November.

Danish director Jakob Bak Ley is also in a Christmassy mood: since last year, he has been working on his first feature, the fully animated Get Santa, but the long production schedule will not see it come to an end until Christmas 2016.

Danish actor Lars Hjortshøj – who doubled as Father Christmas in two Danish TV2 advent-calendar TV series, Ludvig & Santa Claus (2011) and The Twins & Santa Claus (2013), which both glued more than 1.5 million viewers to their television screens – will return as Santa in a cast including Camilla Bendix, Mille Dinesen, Esben Pretzmann and Rune Tolsgaard.

Philip LaZebnik, Uffe Rørbæk Madsen and Jenny Lund Madsen’s script follows the story of 11-year-old Emma, an imaginative girl who feels neglected by her large family. So, when Saint Nicholas and his wife invite her to the kingdom of the Elves, she is more than willing to accept the kind offer.

Danish producers Morten Rasmussen and David CH Østerbøg, of Århus-based Deluca Film, which was also behind the two Christmas calendar series, is staging the €2.7 million production in conjunction with Nordic distributor Scanbox Entertainment

Meanwhile, Ley’s animated feature debut follows eight-year-old Julius, who lives in an orphanage. He is mad about Christmas and believes unfalteringly in Santa Claus, but the older children claim it is really the principal at the home who dresses up as Father Christmas. One day, however, Julius suddenly wakes up in a magical Christmas universe.

Scripted by Sanne Munk Jensen and Ley, Get Santa will combine stop motion and 2D/3D techniques. The movie is to be staged by Danish production outfit Copenhagen Bombay Rights, with Sweden’s CB Sverige, and has support from both the Danish and the Swedish Film Institutes.
