This time, the clever team will work on the adaptation of a novel, the rights of which have just been bought by Marcos Kanti's Berlin company: Imperium by Christian Kracht. It appeared in 2012 with Kiepenheuer & Witsch and it retraces the astonising and controversial life of the non-conformist August Engelhardt, who, at the beginning of the last century, in the German colonies of the South Pacific (in Bismarck Archipelago, modern-day Papa New Guinea), founded a community of vegetarians that survived mainly on coconuts.

The novels of Christian Kracht, who is also known for Faserland (1995), were translated into 25 languages. He also co-wrote, with Frauke Finsterwalder, the screenplay of his recent film Finsterworld [+see also:

, awarded at the Lolas-Awards for German Cinema and at the German Critcs' Awards (Best Screenplay).

Filming of Imperium should begin at the beginning of next year. In the meantime, Tom Schilling will appear in a supporting role in Woman in Gold by Simon Curtis, which will have a gala screening as part of the Berlin Film Festival, which starts on Thursday.
