- Luc Jabon’s feature debut stars Fabrizio Rongione as a former convicted revolutionary
Four weeks in Luxembourg and one week in Belgium: the shoot is under way for Luc Jabon’s first feature, Les Survivants [+see also:
film profile]. Best known as a scriptwriter, Jabon’s career has also seen him direct three documentary titles, among them L’âge de raison, le cinema des frères Dardenne, which he co-directed with Alain Marcoen in 2013. Interestingly, in his first foray into fiction territory, Jabon is teaming up with one of the Dardenne brothers’ regular actors, Fabrizio Rongione, who was recently presented with the Magritte Award for Best Actor for his performance in Two Days, One Night [+see also:

In Les Survivants, Rongione plays Nicolas Roulet, a former militant revolutionary who is released from jail after 18 years. Yearning to start a family and become an ordinary working man, Nicolas believes he is done with his criminal past. However, he is unaware that he is still under surveillance by the authorities. Even though his encounter with Nadia seems to change him completely, he cannot remain indifferent to all the inequality and unfairness he sees in the modern world. When he comes across a restless group of rebellious young people, he is forced to ask himself whether he can resist the temptation to repeat the fateful act that landed him in prison 18 years ago.
Erika Sainte, winner of the Magritte Award for Best Female Newcomer in 2012 for She's Not Crying, She's Singing [+see also:

Jabon’s fellow countryman Alain Marcoen is handling the cinematography of this co-production between Luxembourg’s Iris Productions and Belgium’s Iris Films. Financial support comes from the Film Fund Luxembourg, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Wallimage/Bruxellimage, RTBF and the Tax Shelter.
