In just one month on display, the film was seen by over 400,000 viewers, which makes it a “platinum movie”, according to the rating and awards criteria granted conjointly by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund.

Starring Frank Lammers, The Admiral focuses on the leading figure Michiel de Ruyter, one of the most famous names of Dutch naval history. De Ruyter took part in the Anglo-Dutch wars.

The excess of 400,000 viewers is a huge success – and unprecedented in the Dutch film industry – as is the enormous budget of 8 million euro invested by Dutch producers Farmhouse and Belgian Ciné Cri in the making of the movie, which is part of sales agent Arclight Films’ catalogue.

This success is also shared by A-Film, which managed commercial distribution of Admiral in 130 cinema theatres, in two versions: one for children over 12 years of age and another for over 16s that includes 8 seconds of additional images considered too violent for younger audiences.
