film profile] (lit. "The Contents of Silence"), a film structured like a thriller but also drama-heavy that dissects the turbulent inner workings of sects. With a script written by Taberna, Andrés Martorell and Natxo López, based on the eponymous book by Lucía Extebarría, it’s the third fiction film by the director of Yoyes and La buena nueva.

This production by the director via LAMIA – with the support of TVE, ETB, the Government of Navarre and the Gran Canaria town council – has a budget of two million euros. It portrays the search for someone trapped by the swampy networks of fanaticism: Cordelia, the little sister of a young attorney, was part of a sect that carried out a mass suicide; while, a police inspector tries to capture the leader of that organisation.

When speaking with Helena Taberna, the director said, “Fanaticism is a hot topic. I’ve always been interested in and curious about sects and how they work: I wonder what leads a person to enter into a community of this type, to lose their independence and personality, in exchange for being part of a group. The framework for sects is present in life too, in institutions and socially accepted groups that work as such. Humans have a need to be part of a group. This stems from the search for love and protection. Sects take advantage of this desire, as do other social groups that we consider normal."
