BLS supports six new projects for a total of €1.5 million

6 new projects will be financed by the South Tyrol BLS - Film Fund & Commission as part of the first call in 2015: 3 come from Italy, 1 from Austria, 1 from Germany and 1 from England, for a total of 1,570,000 euro.

The three Italian projects are: Three Peaks (provisional title) by Jan Zabeil, produced by Echo Film, a drama set entirely in South Tyrol that will be directed in co-production with Rohfilm from Berlin and that has received from the BLS production assistance to the tune of 350,000 euro. Another Italian work is the Mediaart Production project that for Eva dorme (provisional title), directed by Edoardo Winspeare (Quiet Bliss [+see also:

), received pre-production financing to the tune of 40,000 euro. The screenplay, written by Winspeare with Alessandro Valenti and Robert Buschwenter, is based on the eponymous novel by Francesca Melandri, stars Gerda, a 16-year-old girl, who is sent by her family to work in big hotel in Merano, forced to roll up her sleeves in the kitchen in a truly difficult situation. Das Geheimnis der Bergkräuter (provisional title) by Wilma Pradetto and Veronika Kaserer, produced by Miramonte Film, is a TV documentary about the healing power of mountain herbs, co-produced by Austrian Wurzinger Filmproduktion and backed by the BLS with 60,000 euro.

The foreign projects that will benefit from production include that of Austrian production house KGP Kranzelbinder Gabriele Production provisionally entitled Fly Away Home [+see also:

, by director Mirjam Unger (550,000 euro aid). The story, based on the eponymous novel by Austrian writer Christine Nöstlinger, recounts the 1945 war and Russian occupation in Vienna seen through Christine’s eyes, a nine-year-old girl. And finally Man in the Box, directed by Arsen Anton Ostojic, by English Evergreen Productions in co-production with Croatian Grip Film that includes in the (provisional) cast Martina Gedeck, Thomas Kretschmann and John Bell (250,000 euro in aid); and Die Einsiedler [+see also:

, by South Tyrolean filmmaker and director Ronny Trocker, produced by Berlin Zischlermann Filmproduktion in co-production with Viennese Golden Girls Filmproduktion & Filmservices (320,000 euro in assistance).

Roughly 116 days of filming are planned in South Tyrol. The next deadlines for applying for BLS funding are set for 6 March for the second call and 23 September for the third and final call.
