Indian director and writer Anup Singh, who is based in Geneva, is currently working on his third feature film, Swiss-French production The Song of Scorpions [+see also:
film profile]. The film will be about a convoluted love story and a thirst for revenge, and will be filmed in the mysterious Thar Desert in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Post-production will be completed in Europe sometime between the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017.
The first announcements have been made on the cast, which will include famous French-Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani (nominated for a César in 2014 for her role in The Patience Stone [+see also:
film profile] by Atiq Rahimi) in the main role, accompanied by Irrfan Khan, for whom this will be the second time working with Anup. The film will also feature legendary Indian actress Waheeda Rehman in the role of Golshifteh’s mother and young talents Shashank Arora and Tillotama Shome.
The Song of Scorpions is a European co-production (Feather Light Films, Switerland, and KNM Prod, France) being produced by Saskia Vischer, Shahaf Peled, Michel Merkt and Thierry Lenouvel with the financial backing of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), the regional Cinéforum fund and the CNC World Cinema Aid Fund.
