The Revenant dominates the Oscar nominations with 12 nods

The Revenant dominates the Oscar nominations with 12 nods

Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, actor John Krasinski, and filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee announced the 88th Academy Awards nominations today, and Alejandro G Iñárritu’s The Revenant was the clear leader with 12 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, and acting nods for Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road was not far behind with ten nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

European (co-)productions have been particularly successful, with Todd HaynesCarol [+see also:

leading the pack, scoring six nominations, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Music, Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actress (Rooney Mara) and Best Leading Actress (Cate Blanchett).
