Rete degli Spettatori, a second chance for good-quality films

The Rete degli Spettatori (lit. Viewers’ Network) gives good-quality films penalised by distribution a second chance. The organisation, currently in its fifth year, has just announced its programme for 2016, which will kick off over the next few weeks.

As in previous years, this year the Rete degli Spettatori, in agreement with the organisation 100autori, put together a jury of film critics that then chose 10 fictional features and 2 documentaries from the list of those submitted for the main Italian film festivals (Turin, Rome, Venice) or released in theatres from June to November 2015 in fewer than 100 copies, to be supported in their promotion and distribution by the organisation. The film critics’ selection is accompanied by one other film, chosen by the Festival jury.

To facilitate the circulation of the selected films and make their writers more visible both on the Internet and in cinemas, last year the Rete degli Spettatori launched the Cinelibrary project. This is an archive made up of follow-up videos containing more information on the films selected, which are shown before the films or published on the website with information, trivia and interviews with the writers.

The Network also announced the launch of its Fuori Orario, which was put together in cooperation with Minerva Pictures and aims to improve the distribution of films in secondary schools. A selection of Italian film classics by Francesco Rosi, Roberto Rossellini, Luigi Magni, Bernardo Bertolucci and Elio Petri have been chosen for the project.
