Dogville gets US release

US distributor Lions Gate Films has bought all North American distribution rights to Dogville [+see also:

by Lars von Trier for a reported $1.5m. Lions Gate beat off some stiff competition from the likes of Paramount Classics, United Artits, Miramax and Artisan for the first of an American trilogy entitled US and A. Dogville is a frontrunner to win this year's Palme d'Or and von Trier's leading lady, Nicole Kidman, to take home the best actress award. Dogville is also the first of the twenty titles in this year's competition to have secured a North American release, although no date was announced. Lions Gate also distributed von Trier’s 2000 Palme d’Or-winning Dancer in the Dark in North America.
