and The Hidden Face) and short films (he has written and directed six of them), and for this feature, he was able to rely on the support of Spanish production outfits Cactus Flower P, Mono Films and Telefónica Studios (in collaboration with Colombia’s Dynamo Producciones, and with the involvement of TVE and Movistar Plus+). The cast is rounded off by Álex González, Andrés Parra and Belén Rueda (who we will see in La noche que mi madre mató a mi padre – read more – at the end of April, following its premiere at the Málaga Spanish Film Festival).

With a script written by Khraiche himself, Órbita 9 revolves around Helena, a woman who has been preparing herself for a survival mission ever since she was a little girl, but who, unbeknownst to her, is also part of a scientific trial on an enormous scale. Things change when Álex (González) appears in her life and gives her a glimpse of an extraordinary and quite different reality. But the deep emotion that begins to blossom between them could jeopardise a crucial experiment for the future of humanity.

According to the director, Órbita 9 is “a frenetic romantic thriller that ponders the state Planet Earth is in thanks to us, and asks the question of whether or not we find ourselves at the point of no return”. The eight-week shoot will soon shift to locations in Bogotá, Vitoria and San Sebastián. With a €4 million budget, the film will be stylishly executed thanks to a crew made up of DoP Pau Esteve, production designer Íñigo Navarro and editor Antonio Frutos; it also boasts a score courtesy of Federico Jusid.
