Álex de la Iglesia producing Zoe Berriatúa again with En las estrellas
by Alfonso Rivera
- The actor’s second film as a director will be shot this spring, starring Karra Elejalde and produced by the director of The Bar
“En las estrellas [lit. “In the Stars”] is a film being prepared by Zoe Berriatúa, and it’s the most beautiful thing in the world… it’s sheer glorious madness. We’re starting the shoot in May, with Karra Elejalde in the lead role. It deals with Zoe’s life and his relationship with his father, filmmaker Luciano Berriatúa, which lay somewhere between wonderful and crazy. Zoe wasn’t allowed to watch non-silent movies until he was 14 years old: imagine what kind of a director that environment ends up creating! Also, there was his dad with his obsession with cinema, filming a great movie that didn’t come to fruition and became a pipe dream. And there was Zoe thinking he would end up seeing it one day…” This is how thrilled Álex de la Iglesia is as he talks to us about his new project as a producer, which he is staging through his company, Pokeepsie Films.
The promotional blurb for En las estrellas offers a few more scraps of information about the plot: “A child will always love his father, even if he’s a mess, even if he’s a drunkard, even if they are prised apart by the authorities… Because he’s his father, and together they live among the stars.” An exacting casting process has been ongoing over the last few months in order to find the lead actor for the role of the young boy. The screenplay was written by Berriatúa himself, and the main cast is rounded off by Macarena Gómez.
De la Iglesia, a tireless talent scout with a fresh and iconoclastic way of looking at the world, previously produced Los héroes del mal [+see also:

En las estrellas will be the sixth film produced by Pokeepsie Films, following Berriatúa’s aforementioned debut, Shrew’s Nest [+see also:
