The Polish Film Institute supports eight minority co-productions

The committee of experts for the new special fund for minority co-productions has just announced the results of its first session of 2017, and a total of eight films will end up benefiting from this form of aid provided by the Polish Film Institute (PISF).
The experts considered 20 projects in all, and €915,116 will be earmarked for the eight co-productions selected. Leading the pack, with the healthiest amount of support (€279,000), is Based on a True Story [+see also:
film profile] by Roman Polanski. This psychological thriller starring Emmanuelle Seigner and Eva Green tells the story of a relationship between two women, one of whom attempts to take complete control of the other’s life. It is being produced on the Polish side by Monolith Films, with the French executive production being handled by WY Productions.
The same level of support was granted to Mister Pichon’s Last Journey by Danish director Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, a film about the final days of Frédéric Chopin and a Polish co-production by Akson Studio together with Nimbus Film (Denmark), MACT Productions (France), Panache Productions (Belgium) and Meteoriit Film (Estonia).
A positive decision was also made in regard to the feature debut by Latvia’s Edmunds Jansons, known internationally for his short films (Choir Tour, International Fathers’ Day). He is preparing Jacob, Mimmi and the Talking Dogs, an animated movie for young audiences, which is a co-production between Atom Art (Latvia) and Letko Spólka z o.o. (Poland).
Also featuring among the lucky few are Slovenia’s Olmo Omerzu with Jackdaws on the Road (read the interview), Romania’s Florin Serban with Love 1: Dog, Croatia’s Vinko Bresan with What a Country!
