Written by Hélène Fillières and Mathias Gavarry, the story revolves around 22-year-old Laure, who is trying to find her feet. After performing brilliantly in her literature studies, she enrols as a communications officer in the Naval Fusiliers. She will quickly have to adapt to and assimilate the rules that apply within the institution. But Laure is a determined woman, and she has a thirst for knowledge – still. A thirst to learn to get to know and be comfortable with herself, and to find her place.

Produced by Matthieu Tarot for Albertine Productions (which previously staged the filmmaker’s feature debut), Volontaire is being co-produced by Selective Films and Gaumont (which will distribute it in France), with backing from such sources as the Brittany region, where the shoot will begin (running from 11 May-20 June in Brest, on the Crozon peninsula and in Lorient) before continuing in Paris and the Paris region from 21 June-5 July.

As a reminder, Albertine Productions will be launching Problemos [+see also:
