The cast is rounded off by Najwa Nimri, Daniel Grao, Joaquín Furriel, Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Luisa Gavasa, Ángela Molina and José María Pou. “The Tree of Blood is a story that got us excited right from the start because we got wrapped up in Julio Medem’s own particular brand of imagery, language and style. Besides being able to count on the sheer authenticity of his narrative, we saw a commercial opportunity thanks to the thriller that lurks behind all family-based storylines – love affairs, unfaithfulness, secrets and love itself,” explains producer Ibon Cormenzana, of Arcadia Motion Pictures: “When we received the screenplay, we saw it was also an ambitious project on a huge scale, which would need international partners. We presented it to Noodles Production, a French production house, whom we have partnered up with in the past on films such as Blancanieves [+see also:

by Mateo Gil. Noodles also fully believed in the script and saw the international potential of the story, and so they did not hesitate to get on board the project.”

“Julio Medem has forged a vast film career, and he enjoys recognition not only in Spain, but also on the international stage. One could say that he is one of the cult directors, with a unique universe of his own. His movies have garnered awards at many of the most important festivals around the globe, and we believe that The Tree of Blood will go down the same path. The film retains the essence of Julio Medem and ushers you into the same universe found in his early works, but it also has an undeniable commercial appeal,” Ignasi Estapé (also a producer at Arcadia Motion Pictures) tells Cineuropa. “In his filmography, Julio has been able to combine his own style of auteur film with mainstream audiences, and we hope that this movie will become a new benchmark in his career.”

The Tree of Blood, which features a screenplay by Medem himself, cinematography by Kiko de la Rica and music by Lucas Vidal, is an Arcadia Motion Pictures film in co-production with Diamond Films, Galatea Films and Noodles Production (France). It can boast the involvement of EiTB and Movistar Plus+, and it will be distributed in Spain and sold in Latin America by Diamond Films.
