The film’s synopsis is as follows: "If I have to die, I want to choose how I die." Time flows like a river for Maria, a hooded individual with an unyielding step. An existence that is lived one day at a time, without dreams or desires, while she takes care of her mother and remains at the beck and call of a bejewelled “madame.” Together with her brave-eyed pit bull, Maria ferries pregnant women across the river, in what seems to be an endless purgatory. But it’s precisely this woman who will one day experience hope again, in its most ancestral and powerful form, as miraculous as life itself. Because staying human has always been the greatest challenge.
The film also stars Massimiliano Rossi (the father of the twins in Indivisible), Marina Confalone (4 David di Donatello awards, including Best Actress in Neapoletan Spell), Cristina Donadio (the iconic Scianel in Gomorra – the series) and Marcello Romolo (The Young Pope). Il vizio della speranza was produced by Attilio De Razza and Pierpaolo Verga (who won a David di Donatello award for Best Producers in 2017 for Indivisible) for Tramp Limited and O'Groove. The film is due to be distributed in Italy by Medusa. Filming will last for a total of six weeks and will take place exclusively in Castelvolturno.
