The Europa Cinemas Label in the Directors’ Fortnight goes to Lucia’s Grace

film profile] by Italy’s Gianni Zanasi, which was unveiled in the 50th Directors’ Fortnight at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, has won the Europa Cinemas Label (handed out by a jury of exhibitors to the best European film screened in the parallel section).

film profile], which the Fortnight chose to bring its selection to a close. Produced by Rita Rognoni (Pupkin) and Beppe Caschetto (IBC Movie) together with Rai Cinema, the film follows a young surveyor (Alba Rohrwacher) whose future career is put in jeopardy when she realises that the imminent construction of an ambitious building turns out to be hazardous for the environment, and she will quickly be put to the test. The international sales are handled by The Match Factory.
The Art Cinema Award (handed out by CICAE), also bestowed upon a movie in the Directors’ Fortnight, singled out the new film by the controversial Gaspar Noé, Climax [+see also:
film profile], produced by Rectangle Productions, co-produced by Arte France Cinéma, Wild Bunch, Les Cinémas de la Zone and Artémis Productions, and sold overseas by Wild Bunch.
Lastly, the SACD Award went to another comedy, The Trouble With You [+see also:
film profile] by Pierre Salvadori, staged by Les Films Pelléas, France 2 Cinéma, CN6 Productions and Chaocorp, the international sales of which are overseen by mk2 films. The Short Film Award went to Skip Day by Ivete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan.
