Yesterday, the San Sebastián International Film Festival hosted the presentation of a brand-new collaboration between the Basque festival and the Gijón International Film Festival, which will bear fruit during the programme of the latter's 56th edition. Through the launch of the Crossroads - Zinemaldia | FICX section, the two gatherings will start cooperating in order to find a way around the inter-festival competition to get absolute premieres, and establish common programming spaces.

Gijón International Film Festival director Alejandro Díaz Castaño said, “The aim of this section is to build a series of bridges to avoid the competition involved in getting film premieres, which can become a fairly fierce war that we would like to avoid. This type of collaboration between the two festivals, which will try to solve an issue affecting every programmer right now, is supported more than ever by international bodies, such as the MEDIA programme, whose funding we have received this year."

Highlighting the success of the Perlak section, San Sebastián International Film Festival director José Luis Rebordinos stated, “Festivals should only compete in those fields where we have no other choice, but in the end, programmers should ask themselves a question: what is good for the films, and not only for the festivals?"

At Gijón, the first edition of Crossroads - Zinemaldia | FICX will screen five films hailing from every section of San Sebastián: High Life [+see also:
