17/10/2023 - The industry area of the new Cadiz festival presented nine titles in the Avances de Andalucía section and another three in the Avances RTVA section

Last week, as part of the industry activities of the first South International Series Festival (held in Cadiz from 6 to 12 October), professionals from the sector presented their projects to Andalusian production companies, platforms and institutions. In the Avances de Andalucía section, nine projects were presented, which are detailed below.

Hombre muerto no sabe vivir: La serie is a spin-off of the film Hombre muerto no sabe vivir [+see also:

film profile], starring a gypsy clan played once again by Elena Martínez, Antonio Dechent and Paco Tous. Setlist tells the story of how on the same day that Manu, 23 years of age, is dumped by his boyfriend, he meets Guille (50), a successful singer on the independent circuit: from that meeting and through eight concerts, their relationship will grow and twist. Descifrando al genio: Paco de Lucía is not only the story of the late artist, but also that of Francisco Sánchez "Mambrú", the person behind the genius who changed flamenco forever and placed himself on the throne of legendary guitarists. Imbroda. El legado del maestro is the biopic of a basketball coach who managed to take his small school team to the elite of the national sport. A teacher who changed people, succeeding in sport, business and even politics. Malpartida is the biographical series (in three 40-minute episodes) of Juan Luis Malpartida, “the Tarzan of Olvera", a man raised among species with one purpose in life: to care for and save as many animals as possible. Desde el fondo is a series about friendship, football and "cadismo": Raúl appears to receive messages from the beyond and his friend Manolo, a Cádiz C.F. fan, helps him to overcome his fears, avoid dangers and harness this power. Barrio Asunciónis a thriller come black comedy that tells the story of how, after the death of her son-in-law, a 60-year-old woman from Cádiz discovers the drug trafficking business he used to run. This Andalusian-style Breaking Bad (six 52-minute episodes) will star Mona Martínez, who we have seen in recent films such as Jaula [+see also:

film profile]. Tinta urbana is about a teenager raised in a broken family, with an innate talent for drawing and a serious problem with authority. Her life collides with that of Ruso, a renowned tattoo artist who is still active thanks to the remnants of a golden age that will never return. Titan Tofu is an animated series that features a curious world that grows along with its characters, three misguided creatures who face the greatest discovery of their lives every day: their inner selves. 

And in the Avances RTVA section, the following projects were presented: Amparo. La mujer que se atrevió a decir no, centred around Amparo Muñoz, an actress from Malaga who was Miss Universe and made the pages of the tabloids, but was brave enough to say no, to challenge the establishment and defend women's rights; Sucedió en, a series based on real events; and lastly, Y el verbo se hizo Cádiz, a two-part documentary that deals with issues such as miscegenation, interculturality and the challenges facing the Spanish language with the use of social media and artificial intelligence.
