, being distributed in theatres in 135 prints by Gaumont Buena Vista International (GBVI). The distribution company also released the director’s previous film, The Last Kiss, which was first shown on French screens on November 6, 2002 in 163 copies, and registered an audience of 200,000. Remember Me is a 20% co-production (out of a total budget of €5 million) by Buena Vista France, which went into partnership with the Italian company Fandango. This release is seen to be a decisive test, after the disappointing result of Muccino’s last film, to see if films that go down well with the Italian audience can also repeat their success in France.

Other releases in French cinemas today include Happiness Costs Nothing, another example of collaboration between the French and Italian cinema world. The new film by Mimmo Calopresti stars Francesca Neri, Vincent Perez and Valeria Bruni tedeschi and is a co-production between Luc Besson’s company, EuropaCorp, with the director’s production company (Bianca Film) and Ventura Films.

These two Italian releases have to contend with a veritable avalanche of films having their first outing on French screens, a total of 13 in all, including many French productions already presented at some of the most important festivals of the last season, like Cannes, Locarno and San Sebastian : The Story of Marie and Julien by Jacques Rivette (in 52 prints, distributed by Les Films du Losange ), No Rest for the Brave [+see also:
