The Swedish Film Institute (SFI) has awarded over Skr 19m to 19 regions in Sweden to develop all film and video activities and film culture in those regions in 2004.

The biggest amount (Skr3.3m) was awarded to Film i Väst, the regional resource and production centre in the North West of Sweden, which co-produces half of all feature films made in the country every year, including Lars von Trier and Lukas Moodysson's films. Film I Väst is one of the three big Swedish production centres, along with Filmpool Nord in the Norrbotten region and Film i Skåne, which received Skr 2.4m and Skr 2m respectively from the SFI. The Institute’s support to those production centres is aimed at increasing feature film production in those regions started in 2000, while the SFI support to regional film and video activities in general started in 1997.
