Moscow Meets Multiplex

- National Amusement is planning to open the largest cinema in the country

An 11-screen multiplex with 3,500-seat, wall-to-wall screens and the latest in digital sound. American National Amusements, a Viacom subsidiary, has announced plans to build Kinostar, the biggest multiplex in the country to be located in the Mega retail centre, which is being constructed by Swedish furniture giant IKEA in southern Moscow. Work will begin in 2003, which will be completed within 12 to 14 months. The multiplex will show international first-run and Russian films as well as independent releases.
Kinostar is going to overwhelm the short primacy of nine-screen Formula Kino, built and operated by Russian exhibitors KARO Film and Imperial Kino, who opened last May.
