A career tribute to Reinhard Hauff

During the annual German Film Award ceremony, which will take place in Berlin on the 8th of July, the Deutschen Filmakademie will grant the director Reinhard Hauff a special distinction for his entire career.

Reinhard Hauff, born in 1939 in Marburg, started as assistant to the show-director Michael Pfleghar, and to Rolf von Sydow, with whom he organised a dozen shows, including Janis Joplin's 1969 concert. Hauff was working for the television when his film Die Verrohung des Franz Blum stood out and allowed him to keep working as a filmmaker. In the late 70's, his talent fully appeared in the 1977 film The Main Actor (which he also wrote), Knife in the Head (1978), and Slow Attack (1980). His feature Stammheim, depicting the trial of the Baader-Meinhof terrorist group, earned him the Golden Bear 1986 in Berlin. This film, co-produced by Bioskop-Film and Thalia-Theater, concludes a reflection on the themes which pervade all his films: delinquency, violence, seclusion...

Reinhard Hauff was, from January 1993 until very recently, President of the Filmakademie. He retired this spring, for health reasons. The Filmakademie will therefore take advantage of the award ceremony to pay their respects to their former president and his great career.
