V For Vendetta bows in London

The film adaptation of Alan Moore and David Lloyd’s graphic novel V For Vendetta just ended a spectacular shoot in London’s Whitehall and Parliament Square after most of its 12 weeks shoot spent in Potsdam’s Babelsberg Studio.

A shaved Natalie Portman who plays a young woman who falls in love with a masked anarchists known as V (Hugo Weaving) after he rescues her from the clutches of the secret police in a futuristic totalitarian Britain, was among the cast and crew of over 1,000 people who transformed Westminster into the largest location shoot in London for years according to Film London who assisted the shooting in the UK capital.

Now in post-production and set for a November UK release to coincide with this year’s 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes’ plot to blow up the UK House of Parliament, the film is made by the creative team behind The Matrix, the Wachowski brothers who are producing the film with Joe Silver, based on their own script. US director James Mac Teigue who was assistant director on the Matrix films and the last two Star Wars films, is making his debut film on V For Vendetta, also starring Sinéad Cusack, Stephen Fry, Rupert Graves and Stephen Rea. The film is a US/German co-production between Warner Bros and Fünfte Babelsberg Film with support from Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg.
