Riviera in official competition

Among the 15 features selected in official competition for the 58th Locarno International Film Festival (3 - 13 August) appears notably Riviera from the French filmmaker Anne Villacèque. World premiere screening, this second feature, following Petite chérie (2000) has a cast including Vahina Giocante, Miou-Miou and Elie Semoun.

Written by Anne Villacèque herself, the screenplay follows the trajectory of Stella (Vahina Giocante), a young woman of 17, strip-tease dancer in a low-life nightclub la Riviera, on the French Côte d’Azur. House-keeper in a palace, her mother Antoinette (Miou-Miou), excessive and possessive, has bet everything on her daughter finding a rich man to change their lives. One day, Prince Charming in the shape of a business man named Romansky, arrives at the Grand Hotel and enters the lives of the two women.

Produced by Nicolas Blanc for Agat Films & Cie, in co-production with Nathan Production and Arte France Cinéma who invested 450 000 euros (130 000 in broadcast rights), Riviera had a total budget pf 3,02 million euros, including an Advance on receipts of 370 000 euros from the National Film Centre (CNC ) and pre-sales by Canal + and by Ciné Cinéma. Sold internationally by Celluloïd Dreams, it will be distributed on the French screens by Bac Films.
