The magic of film music will be acknowledged this year at the European Film Awards (cf.news).
Indeed, the big event of the EFA weekend is the presence of famous composers such as Bruno Coulais, Frédéric Devreese, George Fenton, Alberto Iglesias, Maurice Jarre, Zbigniev Preisner, Stephen Warbeck, and Gabriel Yared, all gathered in Berlin for an extraordinary concert in which they will participate: on Friday 2d December, the Flemish Radio Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Dirk Brossé, will feature "La Musique de l’Image - European Film Composers in Concert" in the People's Theatre of Berlin, Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.

Then on Saturday 3d December, during the awards ceremony, Maurice Jarre will be granted the prize 'European contribution to world cinema' 2005. Jarre, whose career started in the early fifties, worked with New Wave directors such as Alain Resnais and Georges Franju. Ten years after that, he wrote the unforgettable soundtracks for Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago by David Lean, to which he owes his worldwide fame. Maurice Jarre worked with other major directors such as William Wyler (for The Collector), Alfred Hitchcock (for Topaz), John Huston (for The Mackintosh Man), Volker Schlöndorff (for The Tin Drum), Peter Weir (for Dead Poets Society), and István Szabó (for Sunshine).

The concert Music for European Films is organised in collaboration with the Ghent Flanders Film Festival, the Flemish Radio Symphonic Orchestra, the City of Ghent, the Province of East-Flanders, the Flemish government (Ministry of Media, Tourism, and Foreign Affairs), and the Flemish diplomats in Germany.
