Sorrentino Shut Out
The Consequences of Love will not compete for the Best Foreign Film Oscar. The film, directed by Paolo Sorrentino and produced by Domenico Procacci (Fandango), was released on September 24, 2004, seven days after the regulation cut-off date, and therefore cannot be the Italian candidate for the Academy Awards.
Procacci stepped down as jury member from the commission that must evaluate the ideal candidate for the Oscar race by October 2. Procacci cites "other commitments" as the reason behind his departure, and claims it has nothing to do with the film’s exclusion.
