25% market share for local films

Domestic admissions for Finnish films have increased by over 60% in 2006 compared to 2005, now exceeding 1.5m.
This represents a 25% market share, a drastic improvement on 2005’s 15% slice of the market, which will undoubtebly continue to grow as two more Finnish films are still to open before the end of the year: the children’s film Mystery Of The Wolf byRaimi O. Niemi and Rock N’ Roll Never Dies by newcomer Juha Koiranen.
The top release of the year – out of all titles– is still Aleksi Mäkelä’s Matti: Hell Is for Heroes, which has sold over 462,000 tickets.
Second and third on the list of local titles are Jackpot by Pekka Karjalainen and FC Venus [+see also:

film profile] by AJ Annila, which has garnered over 73,000 adminssions in one month, The Leaning Tower by Timo Koivusalo, for which actor Martti Suosalo was awarded a Special Mention at the last Nordic Film Days in Lübeck, and Aki Louhimies’ festival and critics’ favourite Frozen City [+see also:

A total of 14 Finnish films were released domestically in 2006, including two documentaries (against 11 films in 2005).
Total admissions for all films so far are estimated at 6 million, up 18 % on 2005.
