Icon president steps down

Alex Hamilton, who had been running Icon Film Distribution (IFD) since April 2005, left his position as president of the company last week.

IFD is the UK distribution arm of Icon Group, run by Bruce Davey and Mel Gibson in the US. The company had a promising start early 2006 with Woody Allen’s Match Point [+see also:

(over £2.4m grossed) but two of its latest releases – US films The Night Listener with Toni Collette and Robin Williams and Trust the Man with David Duchovny and Julianne Moore – had disappointing results (respectively £616,000 and 533,000) despite print runs of over 240 copies each.

Upcoming releases include UK romantic comedy It’s a Boy Girl Thing by Nick Hurran, executive produced by Elton John (opening date December 29), and Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, opening on January 5, 2007.
