Broadcasters disclose 2006 film investments

Subsidiaries of the five public French broadcasters (TF1, France 2, France 3, Arte, M6) made a total investment in pre-sales and co-production of €124.46m in 2006. This represents a 5.6% increase over 2005. Funding was allocated to 108 features (compared to 110 in 2005), including only 20 first films (32 in 2005).

TF1 Films Production invested €47.43m in 21 films in 2006. Titles backed included Asterix at the Olympic Games, Olivier Marchal’s RMR73, Jean-Paul Salomé’s Les Femmes de l'ombre, Alain Corneau’s Second Wind [+see also:

Meanwhile, France 2 Cinéma invested €31.7m in 29 films, including European co-production Le Mas des Alouettes by the Taviani brothers, as well as Jean-Jacques Annaud’s Sa Majesté Minor, Paris by Cédric Klapisch, Claude Chabrol’s La fille coupée en deux, Jean-Marc Moutout’s Exclusif and Jérôme Bonnell’s J’attends quelqu’un.

In 2006, France 3 Cinéma invested €20.4m in 22 films, including Luc Jacquet’s Le renard et l’enfant, Erick Zonca’s Julia, Breitman’s L’Homme de sa vie, White Material by Claire Denis, Robert Guédiguian’s Lady Jane, Cortex by Nicolas Boukhrief and Sylvain Chomet’s new animated film, L’illusionniste.

Arte France Cinéma provided €7.3m in support to 24 productions. Top of the list were documentary 99 Francs by Jan Kounen, Michel Houellebecq’s La possibilité d’une île, Emmanuel Mouret’s Un baiser s’il vous plaît [+see also:

, Lulu and Jimi by Germany’s Oskar Roehler, Ulzhan by fellow German director Volker Schlöndorff, Import-Export by Austria’s Ulrich Seidl, Lumière silencieuse by Mexico’s Carlos Reygadas, and Ballon rouge by Hou Hsiao Hsien.

M6 Films invested €17.6m in 12 titles last year, including Babylon A.D. [+see also:
