will be the new director of the Turin Film Festival . The official announcement was made yesterday by Alberto Barbera, director of the Film Museum (which is this year organising and financing the festival) and a meeting will be held this morning in Turin for Moretti’s investiture.

Moretti had turned down the position last December 27, after protests from Gianni Rondolino, who founded the festival 25 years ago (see article). Barbera confirmed that the new director "will begin working on the festival immediately, in preparation for its presentation at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival, which will be held from February 8-18".

What kind of festival will Turin be under the Roman director? Barbera explained: "It will have to continue to be a festival dedicated to young and experimental cinema, innovation, in search of new film trends and talent, as well as to add something new, especially in terms of our desire to create a workshop for young directors in Turin, not unlike what Robert Redford did with the Sundance Festival. And we felt that Nanni Moretti, with his popularity among young people and his experience at the Sacher [cinema and festival] in Rome, was the right person".
