New Capitol sales team with six films on offer

From its Berlin headquarters at the Ritz Carlton, a brand new sales team at Capitol Films is welcoming international buyers.

Founding Managing Director Jane Barclay and co-MD Nick Hill have promoted James Norrie to head of sales. He replaces Eve Schoukroun, who has just joined ThinkFilm International, Capitol’s sister company, as their new head of international.

Both Capitol Films and ThinkFilm, a Canadian production and distribution company, are owned by L.A. entrepreneur David Bergstein. Capitol will now concentrate exclusively on star-driven mainstream movies while Think Film will deal with edgier titles. Capitol’s sales team also comprises Sales Director Sofia Neves and the newly appointed Rosanna Coutinho.

Capitol’s flagship title in Berlin is US film Bordertown by Gregory Nava, starring Jennifer Lopez and Antonio Banderas. Both stars will walk down the Berlinale Palast red carpet on February 15 for the official screening. The film, about a woman’s passionate struggle for justice, has already been sold to some 40 territories, including France (SND), Spain (TriPictures), Italy (Medusa) and Scandinavia (Scanbox).

At the market, Capitol is unveiling two world premieres: Irish horror film Shrooms [+see also:

by Paddy Breathnach and US comedy drama You Kill Me by John Dahl.

The sales company will also show a promo reel of Blackout, a high-concept serial killer film by Mexico’s Rigoberto Castañeda, based on Italian writer Gianluca Morozzi’s novel of the same name. The UK/Spanish co-production, currently in post-production, is being produced by Simon O’Leary and Valerio Morabito.

Other high profile films in pre-production include US action thriller Black Water Transit, starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, and the UK romantic drama The Best of Our Lives by John Maybury, featuring Keira Knightley and Lindsay Lohan. The film, produced by Sarah Radclyffe and Rebekah Gilbertson, will start shooting in April.

Lastly, Sidney Lumet’s Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead is now in post-production.
