Luchetti’s brother, an only child

In the city of Latina in the 1960s and 70s, brothers Accio and Manrico are bound by a deep love yet their vastly different personalities place them in constant opposition to one another– one is a fascist, the other a Communist, one an extremist, the other a moderate.

Through their eyes, Daniele Luchetti explores provincial Italian life, perennially conflicted and searching for an identity in a period of great uncertainty.

Based on the novel Il fasciocomunista by Antonio Pennacchi, the script was written by Stefano Rulli and Sandro Petraglia and stars Riccardo Scamarcio and Elio Germano as the two brothers. The strong cast is rounded out by Luca Zingaretti, Massimo Popolizio, Anna Bonaiuto and Angela Finocchiaro.

Apparently, the film’s theme and performances very much impressed the selection committee of the Cannes Film Festival, at which Luchetti, the celebrated assistant to and disciple of Nanni Moretti, could be the director representing Italy in competition this year
