Austrian slasher wins Silver Méliès at BIFFF

The Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film (BIFFF) ended yesterday evening after almost two weeks of entertaining horror (see news) and awarded its Silver Méliès in the European Competition category to Austrian director Andreas Prochaska for Dead in 3 Days [+see also:

A €2m amateur production, Dead in 3 Days is a typical slasher. The film, about young students who receive death threats by text message from a crazed killer, did well at the German box office and has been picked up by numerous international territories (see news).

Dead in 3 Days will compete for the Golden Méliès in September in Lund, Sweden along with other Silver Meliès winners: Anders Morgenthaler’s Danish title Princess [+see also:

Other BIFFF awards honoured Asian films for the most part. The Golden Raven went to Bong Joon-Ho’s Korean film The Host, while a second Korean title, Cho Dong-Ho’s The Restless, and New Zealand film Black Sheep by Jonathan King received Silver Ravens.

The Audience Award went to Susuke Kanebo’s Japanese production Death Note.
