Cramez's debut to compete in Locarno

by

Jorge Cramez's directorial debut O Capacete Dourado (“The Golden Helmet”) has been selected to compete for the Golden Leopard in the upcoming Locarno International Film Festival (August 1-11).

Produced by Paulo Branco for Lisbon-based Clap Filmes, with support from ICAM and RTP, the film is, according to Creamez "a subtle and poetical melodrama, with a deliberately happy ending". This openly contrasts the real case that had initially inspired the director: a Romeo and Juliet story set in Portugal’s northern countryside.

The world premiere in Locarno takes place one month before Portugal's theatrical distribution, scheduled for September 30 by Atalanta Filmes.

Born in Angola in 1963, Cramez directed five short films before throwing himself into O Capacete Dourado. He has also worked as an assistant director and script supervisor in films by Fernando Lopes, Joaquim Leitão and Raquel Freire and José Álvaro Morais.
