Cinema judged by directors

The Venice Film Festival announced today that it’s jury will be entirely made up of filmmakers.

Presided over by China’s Zhang Yimou, the group that on the closing night of the festival’s 64th edition (September 8, 2007), will present its prizes to competition films, includes two directors working in Italy, Emanuele Crialese, Silver Lion winner in 2006 for Golden Door [+see also:

, and Ferzan Ozpetek; France’s Catherine Breillat, who was at Venice 2001 with Brief Crossing; New Zealand’s Oscar winner Jane Campion, a three-time Venice guest (with Grand Jury Prize Winner An Angel at My Table , Portrait of a Lady and Holy Smoke); Mexico’s Alejandro González Iñárritu, at Venice in 2003 with 21 Grams (which won Sean Penn the Best Actor Volpi Award); and Holland’s Paul Verhoeven, in competition at Venice last year with Black Book [+see also:
