by

Icelandic born US actor Gunnar Hansen, famous for playing Leatherface in the 1974 slasher film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, has accepted to star in Júlíus Kemp’s upcoming horror film RWWM (Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre) .

This will be Kemps’ comeback to filmmaking after his 1997 Blossi/810551. The film will be produced by Kemp’s Kisi Production with his usual Finnish co-production partner Markus Selin (Solar Films) and support from the Icelandic Film Centre (IFC). Casting has not been completed yet.

Kemp’s latest production, Astrapia by first-time director Gunnar B. Gudmundsson, is coming out today on Icelandic screens, released in six cinemas by SamFilm. The comedy, starring former Miss Iceland and famous TV host Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir, was produced for €1.5m by Kisi, Solar Films, the IFC and Iceland’s Ministry of Industry.

Kemp told Cineuropa: “I’m very optimistic because the film looks really good. Ragnhildur is excellent in her first feature film appearance and very few Icelandic films are made for young audiences”.

The film’s trailer has been playing for the last five months in cinemas, notably before Shrek the Third, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix [+see also:

and the latest instalment of Pirates of the Carribean. The film does not yet have a sales agent.
