RTVE invests €35m in local cinema

RTVE will invest €35m in local film production until the end of this year. The announcement was made by Luis Fernández, president of the RTVE Corporation, and by Javier Pons, director of TVE (Spanish Television), in a press conference during the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Those films already produced or currently in production to benefit from RTVE investment now includes 72 titles. Last year, 92 titles received €33.3m, while in 2005 a total of €37m was invested in 92 films.

Another topic broached at the press conference was the award 'Otra Mirada: la mujer en el cine' (“Another Perspective: Women in Cinema”). Montse Abbad (director of TVE in Catalonia), Txaro Arteaga (former director of the Emakunde-Instituto Vasco de la Mujer) and filmmaker Patricia Ferreira (Para que no me olvides) will choose the winner from among the 20 films selected by the festival to compete for the new prize.
