RELEASES Germany / Austria

Christmas line-up

by

Compared to last week, which offered a rich selection of enticing new releases (including Volker Schlöndorff’s latest film and festive titles Heidi and Peter and US release Bee Movie), national cinema takes a back seat among the films hitting German screens this Thursday.

The only German title on the slate is the comedy Keinohrhasen, directed by and starring Til Schweiger, who also wrote the screenplay and produced the film with Thomas Zickler for Barefoot Films.

This mass-appeal film, which tells the story of an unscrupulous tabloid journalist who is forced to mend his ways, is distributed by Warner, who are also launching the film in Austria on Friday.

The Austrian Christmas line-up offers a greater selection of German titles. Constantin are releasing Leander Haußmann’s Warum Männer nicht zuhören und Frauen schlecht einparken (“Why Men Don’t Listen and Women Don’t Know How to Wander From the Point”), launched in Germany by the leading distributor on November 29 to quickly stake a position among the top ten domestic hits of the year (at the end of last week, the film had already garnered more than 500,000 admissions and over €3.2m in box-office takings). This comedy starring Benno Fürmann and Jessica Schwarz questions the degree to which the modern couple has evolved.

Filmladen are behind the Austrian release of German title Max Minsky und ich by Anna Justice, a teenage comedy starring Monica Bleibtreu among others, and produced by X-Filme Creative Pool.
