(see Focus) is hitting local screens today. Distributed by Warner, the film marks the return of director Álex de la Iglesia four years after the successful black comedy Ferpect Crime.

Shot in English, Oxford Murders stars Elijah Wood, John Hurt and Leonor Watling and is expected to make a splash at the local box office.

Eurocine Films brings to the big screen Longing [+see also:

by German director Valeska Grisebach. The film, first shown in the 2006 Berlinale, is a story of adultery with tragic consequences set in a small town in Germany.

Alta Films is releasing the French/Lebanese co-production Caramel [+see also:

by Nadine Labaki. The female-driven story set in a Beirut beauty parlour has been winning over audiences ever since its premiere in the Directors Fortnight at Cannes last year.

On the non-European front, Golden Globe winner Javier Bardem is also back in local theatres, not yet with No Country For Old Men but with another US title, Love in the time of Cholera, distributed by Aurum.

The week’s releases are rounded out by Perfect Creature from New Zealand and US title In the Valley of Elah.
