40 distributors bite on Sola’s Disco Worms

The Danish 3D animated film Sunshine Barry & the Disco Worms, sold by Munich-based Sola Media, has been sold to some 40 territories, based on the 10-minute footage with dialogue shown in Cannes.

The film by Thomas Borch Nielse (Jewel of the Desert), about an earthworm named Sunshine Barry who wants to be the star of the world’s greatest disco band, includes new covers of ten disco classics, from “YMCA” and “Stayin’ Alive” to “I Will Survive”.

International distributors to have been won over by the humorous family film include Dimas (Czech and Slovak Republics), Kino Swiat (Poland), Tiglon (Turkey), Imagen (Brazil), and MFC/Continental (the former Yugoslavia).

Sola Media’s Managing Director Solveig Langeland, who boarded the project as co-producer with Denmark’s Nina Crone, said she is still in negotiations with key European territories. SF will release it across Scandinavia in the fall.

Other projects on Sola Media’s Cannes slate include US comedy Buy Borrow Steal starring Heather Graham and Mia Kirshner, sold to some 25 territories, including Poland, Rumania, former Yugoslavia, Middle East. The US release through First Look is set for June 6, 2008.

Austrian filmmaker Sabine Derflinger’s 42 Plus has been sold to Austria, Indonesia, and Korea. Zorro Film Distribution will release it in Germany this August. Beautiful Bitch [+see also:

by Theo Martin Krieger, winner of Best Foreign Film at the Santa Barbara Film Festival last September, was sold to seven territories including France (Epicentre), Spain (Karma), Mexico (Constellation) and is in negotiations for the US.

Sola Media also announced that world famous composer-director-writer-producer Henning Lohner (who composed the music for The Ring Two) will score the documentary film The Turtles Song, produced by the UK’s F&ME. The epic journey of a baby loggerhead turtle has so far sold to 25 territories, such as Germany (Polyband), Switzerland (Ascot Elite), Spain and Portugal (S 2), and the former Yugoslavia (MCF).
