High Point Films has acquired world rights, excluding Benelux, for Pieter van Hees’ feature debut, Left Bank.

A horror film akin to Rosemary’s Baby and The Wicker Man, Left Bank recounts the tale of an athlete who moves in with her mysterious boyfriend and finds out that the apartment block where he lives conceals some terrifying secrets. The film has been on the international festival rounds, including Edinburgh and Sitges.

High Point’s Carey Fitzgerald said, “We have a strong tradition of handling horror films of note, including classics like George A Romero’s classic Dawn of the Dead. Left Bank is a distinctive and thoroughly effective chiller that is an excellent addition to this distinguished pedigree. Also, with a history in championing burgeoning talent, we are proud to be representing the first feature film of someone as clearly worth looking out for as Pieter van Mees.”

Bert Hamelinck, Frank van Passel and Kato Maes have produced the film for Belgium-based company Caviar. High Point Films will launch Left Bank at the AFM in November.

Meanwhile, High Point Television has inked an output deal with UK production house Carnaby International, acquiring Carnaby’s film catalogue.

High Point’s Julie Murphy-Delaney said, “Carnaby International has a deservedly robust reputation as one of the UK’s foremost independent production companies. We’re delighted to be in the unique position to bring their excellent films to a wider audience base through our TV arm.”

Carnaby’s Ian Hall added, “With their experience and proven expertise in selling films to television, High Point is the obvious choice in establishing a solid TV outlet for our titles. We look forward to a long and productive relationship.”
