Nebbou, Régnier and Jover star in Magma

by

After his short Millevaches (lauded at Clermont-Ferrand and nominated for a Cesar in 2002) and his 2003 debut feature Supernova [Expérience#1] (an unusual addition to the French film landscape which won acclaim at several international fantasy film festivals), Pierre Vinour starts shooting on Monday, October 13 on the psychological thriller Magma.

The cast includes Belgian actress Natacha Régnier (Best Actress at Cannes for The Dreamlife of Angels), Spain’s Arly Jover (Le Voyage aux Pyrénées [+see also:

Co-written by the director and his usual collaborator Pascal Mieszala, Magma tells the story of Paul Neville (Nebbou), who is married to Christie (Régnier) and embarks on an affair with the woman in the next-door room (Jover) during a seminar at an isolated hotel in Auvergne.

But the day the lovers decide to abandon everything and live out their passion, the young woman disappears. Suspected by the police, Paul also feels overcome by strange urges. In order to discover what has happened to his mistress, he first has to get to know himself.

Produced by the director and Aurélie Bordier for Les Enragés, Magma has received pre-sales from Ciné Cinéma and backing from the Auvergne and Limousin regions.

Shooting is scheduled to last until November 7, on the high granite plateaus of Cézallier (on the border of the Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme regions) with its astonishing scenery reminiscent of Mongolia. The film is expected to be ready for release in April 2009, with domestic distribution and international sales still under negotiation.

The feature’s original score will be composed by the band Zone Libre. The trio includes guitarists Serge Teyssot-Gay (of Noir Désir) and Marc Sens (who has worked with Yann Tiersen) alongside Cyril Bilbeaud (former drummer with Sloy).
