Rotterdam unleashes Tiger Competition line-up
After a first batch in December (see news), the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has announced the remaining titles of its Tiger Competition that showcases first and second films from the four corners of the globe.
For the first time, works from New Zealand, Turkey and Indonesia are part of the 14-title line-up that includes eight world premieres.
French-language Canadian film At West of Pluto (A l’ouest de Pluton) from Henri Bernadet and Myriam Verreault will kick off the festivities, while the Chilean feature Tourists (Turistas) from director Alicia Scherson will wrap up the proceedings.
From Turkey comes Wrong Rosary (Uzak ihtimal), a love story set in contemporary Istanbul by director Mahmut Fazil Coskun.
New Zealand’s Armagan Ballantyne will compete with The Strength of Water, a story set in a Maori coastal village that was co-produced by German outfit Pandora Film.
From Austrian production company Nanook Film comes the second feature of Caspar Pfaundler, Schottentor, which looks at the underground univers of the Schottentorpassage in Vienna.
France is in the running with Juliette Garcias’ debut film Be Good [+see also:

film profile] (Sois sage), a co-production with Denmark that was shot in Burgundy (see news).
Floating in Memory, the second film of Chinese director Peng Tao, is also part of a competition that is heavy on Asian titles. The IFFR runs from January 21-February 1.
