Presentation & Philosophy:

Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts is a national university and offers University Diploma in Performing Arts and Media. The professional training aims at enabling the students to start a professional career directly after their graduation.

The Diploma programmes consist of three years full time studies, leading to a Bachelor Degree, consisting of practical production and team-exercises linked to theoretical specific and interdisciplinary courses. The programmes concentrate mainly on practical work, but also include theory. Continual contact with professionals and professional work is maintained by means of guest lecturers, study visits, and co-productions with other institutions, film companies, radio teams, and theatres.

The Academy also offers postgraduate courses, as well as shorter courses as further education for professionals within the field of theatre and media.

SADA is divided into three departments:

  • The Department of Performing Arts
  • The Media Department
  • The Department for Design and Acting

Degree category / length of studies:

MA (Master of Arts): Full-time studies, one or two academic years

BA (Bachelor of Arts): Full-time studies, three academic years

Programme objective and content:

The Bachelor of Arts program includes acting, cinematography, costume design for performing arts, make up & wig design, directing for performing arts, documentary film, film directing, film editing, film production, film sound, lighting design for performing arts, mime acting, playwriting/dramaturgy for performing arts, production management for performing arts, radio production, screenwriting, set design for performing arts, sound design for performing arts, television production, technical theatre for performing arts. The Master of Arts Program includes: screenwriting, children’s film, sound art and the personal storytelling in radio and documentary film

Entry requirements:

General admission requirements for BA Programmes

  • High Swedish language competence, written and spoken.
  • Complete secondary school education.
  • General working experience.
  • Documented experience of creative work within the chosen field.
