The European Film Days offer a wide range of possibilities to celebrate European cinema all across Europe.
The first Cinedays festival was launched in 2002 to celebrate the vitality of European cinema, but also to get young people interested in watching more European films, whether in mainstream cinemas, film clubs or on television. Cinedays aims at encouraging young Europeans to discover not only the new films of today but, equally, the classics of European cinema. The aim of Cinedays is in fact to enable young people to discover European cinema, promoting Europe's film production and cinematographic heritage.
As part of Cinedays 2003 more than 600 cinemas, filmhouses, associations, festivals, regions and schools in 310 towns in 24 European countries, and 41 television channels, screened European films, both classics and new releases, and organised debates, competitions and seminars on film.
The initiative also highlights the boom in European production despite the difficulties inherent in the international market, such as the different languages, cultures and styles.
