La Vita Nuova, produced by the Italian company Alpis, is the winner of the fifth edition of When East Meets West. The project tells the story of Franco and Pia, members of a group of people that re-enact their own dreams as a form of spiritual healing for their existential anxieties.
La Vita Nuova will be the second feature film by Carlo Zoratti, who was selected last year with his previous work at the Locarno Film Festival in the Filmmakers of the Present section. La Vita Nuova was honoured with the WEMW Development Award as the best of the 22 projects in competition by an international jury of experts consisting of Matthieu Darras (Torino Film Lab), Nikolaj Nikitin (SOFA – School of Film Agents) and Kristina Trapp (EAVE).
A grant for the participation in the next edition of the EAVE European Producers Workshop has gone to Hungarian producer Julianna Ugrin (Eclipse Film) for the project Afterglow, the cinematic debut by Noémi Veronika Szakonyi. The EGG Digital Cinema Award, a full digital cinema package offered by EGG, one of the leading post-production studios in Ireland, has gone to the Irish project Butterfly City, produced by Jeremiah Cullinane (Planet Korda Pictures) and directed by Olga Cernovaite.
Finally, an international jury comprising Catherine Le Clef (CAT&Docs), Leena Pasanen (Dok Liepzig) and Claudia Schreiner (MDR) handed over the HBO Europe Award – in the brand-new Last Stop Trieste work-in-progress section – to the Polish film Brothers [+lee también:
