June is a big festival month in the TV industry, with leading events held in Shanghai, Banff, and Monte Carlo. In all three of them, German productions have been prominently featured this year, which confirms the good international reputation of programmes 'made in Germany'.

Two German productions – both dealing with German history during and after the Second World War – competed at two of these important festivals: Naked Among Wolves by Philipp Kadelbach (UFA Fiction, ARD Degeto, MDR, WDR, SWR, BR), the follow-up project by the makers of Generation War, as well as Tannbach by Alexander Dierbach (Wiedemann & Berg Television, Wilma Film, ZDF), were both running for the Golden Nymph Award at the 56th Monte Carlo international Television Festival and for the Rockie Award at the Banff World Media Festival – where a total of eight German productions were presented from 12 to 15 June.

In Monte Carlo (12 to 16 June), six German productions were invited, including non only the above-mentioned, but also the international topseller Deutschland 83 by Edward Berger and Samira Radsi (UFA Fiction, RTL). Furthermore, Tannbach’s Henriette Confurius was nominated for the Best Actress Golden Nymph Award at Monte Carlo.

The 22nd Shanghai TV Festival STVF (6-10 June) had five German titles in its programme. The competition for the Magnolia Awards in the Foreign TV Film/Miniseries category included NSU German History X by Züli Aladag, Florian Cossen, and Christian Schwochow (Gabriela Sperl Produktion on behalf of Wiedemann & Berg Television, ARD Degeto, SWR, MDR), which garnered considerable attention during the MIPTV, and Urs Egger’s Letter to My Life (Bavaria Fernsehproduktion, ZDF) – which also garnered lead actress Marie Bäumer a nomination for Best Lead Actress at the FIPA, in Biarritz.
